The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling truck in the United States for 40 years, and it’s been the top vehicle overall for 35 years. For this important anniversary year, the 2018 Ford F-150 offers a new V6 turbodiesel engine, a better transmission, and more horsepower and torque for existing engines. It also has attractive new styling and more features. Here’s some more information about the newest generation of this popular truck.
Two horizontal bars split the 2018 F-150’s grille and run into the headlights, and they’re divided by the familiar large Ford blue oval in the center. Like previous generations, different trim levels have different grille inserts available with a range of colors and shapes. The new F-150’s taillights look more prominent, and tow hooks under the front bumper make vehicle recovery easy after a breakdown or an accident. Models with four-wheel drive come with extra skid plating under the body to protect vital components and make off-road driving worry-free.

The 2018 Ford F-150 comes in regular cab, SuperCab, or SuperCrew versions. The base model has rubber floors and vinyl or cloth seats. Choose the F-150 Lariat or a higher trim for leather seats and Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The luxurious Limited trim has two-tone leather seats with a massage feature for the front passengers. There’s also a panoramic moonroof and a premium audio system.
Engine and Transmission Improvements
The 2018 Ford F-150 offers engines with more power and efficiency than earlier models. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and the 5-liter V8 both have more power, and a new 3-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6 engine will be available in the summer of 2018. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard on all but the base model, which still has the previous six-speed transmission. All the engines come with automatic start and stop for better fuel economy.
The base 3.3-liter V6 engine gets a new port and direct injection system, making it smaller and more powerful than 2017’s 3.5-liter V6. It produces 290 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 265 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, an increase of eight horses and 12 pound-feet. The 5-liter V8 offers 395 horsepower at 5,750 rpm and 400 pound-feet of torque at 3,850 rpm, another appealing increase in power. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 has reduced internal friction and stronger materials. It still has 325 horsepower at 5,000 rpm, but torque increases to 400 pound-feet at 2,750 rpm.
Lots of high-tech new safety features are optional on lower trims and standard on upper models like the Limited. The 2018 F-150 is the first half-ton pickup with adaptive cruise control, and Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection helps drivers avoid accidents. Lane-keeping and blind spot monitoring are available, and you can set the blind spot system to work even when you’re towing a trailer up to 33 feet long.
Like previous models, this new F-150 is an excellent work truck with the same features as many luxury cars. More power and lots of practical features make the 2018 Ford F-150 great for towing or hauling, long road trips, or even everyday commuting.
